While not identical, the emotions that drove Ned and Henry are almost the same. Like Ned, Henry had lost the one he loved, Delilah helped him through it and eventually Henry dissapears on her. Delilah helped Ned through the summer until Ned dissapeared on her. He lived out his days in the wilderness, knowing he will die there alone. Ned had lost the one he loved most and had no reason to return to society without the one he loved. A small plot idea that I noticed (or maybe this is simply my interpretation) is that in a way, Ned was a mirror of Henry. This would have been the most interesting. Thank you Delilah, thank you for everything." Or, even more interesting would be to tell Delilah something like "You know, I decided that Ned had it right, I don't have much to go back to. One tiny audio clip would have made this alternate ending far more interesting. Or for D to maybe call you on the radio one last time after the chopper leaves to say something to the effect of "I heard you stayed behind. Like being able to go back up into the tower one last time and call D and tell her you aren't coming back. I wish they would have spent one extra day making this (alternate) ending just a tiny bit more interesting.
